I have bought many cheese graters over the years trying to find the perfect one to grate Cheddar cheese,with it being a soft cheese that’s a real test for a grater…..but this is the first grater I have ever bought that did a perfect job…It’s easy to crank (because of the larger handle it has) and it’s really easy to clean because the grater barrel is bigger around than other graters….I have gotten rid of all my other graters that I have now because this one is simply the best !!!

I purchased this grater about 2 months ago now and I am so happy I did!
Finally no more grated knuckles! This grater works well on both hard and medium cheeses. I have grated LOTS of cheddar already with it and even softer mozzarella. The fine drum makes very nice thin strips of parmesan, just the right size.
I have small hands and do NOT find it difficult to use as some reviewers have commented. I find that you do not need to press down on the top to get it to work, just kind of hold it closed with slight pressure. If you press hard, it makes it more difficult to turn the drum. Relax and let the grater do the work!
Clean up is easy as long as you do it right away and don’t let the cheese harden. If you do forget, just soak in hot water for a bit and it will come right off.

Nothing makes a guy think “there must be a better way !” faster than one of those traditional flat graters your mom may have used. When I decided that the carrots mandated to my diet where just plain better grated, my favorite current wife said “You do it buddy !” Well cleaning up after enduring some screaming electric kitchen appliance ain’t my thing either. Voila! The Swiss do have the answer with the Zyliss all “cheese” grater! It’s simple, works fine on root vegetables, and also does cheese as well. It is an easy utensil to clean up after grating; (an old tooth brush is handy). Guys can see how big a carrot chunk it will grate. I haven’t busted it yet ! On Amazon if you buy two, you get them shipped for free as well ! I can testify the second one will disappear as soon as a buddy, sibling or offspring sees it operate.

I have had a lot of graters over the years, some eat up your knuckles and some wore out our arm. This grater is like their old one but it’s 1999% better. It’s not falling apart when you put the peddleto the metal and stands up to the softest or hardes of cheeses. Try it you’ll love it. I’m buying some as gifts I know I’ll get a lot of thank yous.

I read a bunch of reviews that bemoaned the handle as difficult to hold. What a load of hooey. After using it extensively, I’ve concluded that a person needs 3 things to operate this grater: 1) a functioning opposable thumb, just one. It’s got to bend and be capable of a hand-shake’s worth of pressure. 2) intact sensation to the hand in question. It wouldn’t be a good idea to grate cheese after, say, sleeping on ones arm. Wait until the tingling subsides, then have a go. And 3) Cheese. Seriously. It’s easy. I recommend it highly.

This item works very well. I bought it thinking we would get some use out of it, even if the reviews I read were true. The truth is that this grater works fantastically, and does not break if used properly. You don’t need to exert a lot of force on the grater. As long as you don’t overfill it and as long as your hands are relatively dry when you try to use it, you should have no difficulty gripping the handle.
I have rather large hands, and can use it very easily. My fiance has very small hands, and uses it very easily, as well. Our other graters now sit unused.

Have owned this grater for 16 months of hard use (Parmesan or Romano from the fine drum, shredded carrots from the coarse). Hard to imagine salads or pastas w/o this little tool. No durability issues have ever surfaced. I can’t understand the “too large to grip” complaints of other reviewers–I’ve given this grater to friends and their kids love to grate carrots on salads with it!!! Maybe they are overfilling the hopper? I have thrown all my other graters away due to storage difficulties and non-use. The advantages of this grater are unique and numerous:
1) Coarse (carrots and softer cheeses) and fine (hard cheeses) grating drums.
2) Ambidextrous capabilities
3) Flat storage in kitchen silverware drawer—this is the #1 advantage for me
4) Dishwasher safe cleanup
As far as durability issues, if this thing EVER breaks, I’ll buy a new one immediately—the rest of its benefits far outweigh any possible problems. And actually, I can’t imagining it breaking in normal use—heck, this spring I grated 3 cups of carrots with it for carrot cake ‘cuz I dreaded the cleanup on my full-size food processor.

It works like a charm. We used hard parmesian cheese and it did great. Very easy to use and to clean.
